Digital Skills for Kids is an engaging and interactive course designed to equip children with essential digital skills in today’s technology-driven world.

Course Description

Through a series of fun activities, games, and practical lessons, children will learn foundational digital literacy concepts, internet safety practices, basic coding skills, and multimedia creation techniques. This course aims to empower children to become responsible digital citizens and prepare them for success in a digital age.

Course Duration: 8 weeks (1 hour per week)

Target Audience: Children aged 8-12 years old

Prerequisites: Basic familiarity with using a computer and the internet.

By the end of this course, children will have gained practical skills and knowledge to navigate the digital world safely, creatively express themselves through multimedia, and lay the foundation for further exploration in coding and technology.

  • Lesson 2: Block-Based Coding Activities
  • Lesson 3: Fun Coding Challenges and Games

Module 4: Multimedia Creation

  • Lesson 1: Introduction to Multimedia
  • Lesson 2: Basic Photo Editing Skills
  • Lesson 3: Creating Simple Presentations

Module 5: Cybersecurity Basics

  • Lesson 1: Password Security
  • Lesson 2: Recognizing Online Threats
  • Lesson 3: Internet Privacy Awareness

Module 6: Digital Project Showcase

  • Students will have the opportunity to apply their digital skills and creativity to develop a small digital project, such as a multimedia presentation, simple game, or digital storybook. They will showcase their projects to their peers and receive feedback.

About the Author

Nthanda

Founder of Digital Skills for Africa (alongside other organisations and initiatives), Nthanda is a digital media specialist and a graduate student based in Michigan, USA – pursuing an MBA at Michigan State University – Eli Broad College of Business, specialising in Supply Chain Management and Business Analytics. She recently completed her Master of Science in Entrepreneurship, studying the entrepreneurial opportunities posited by Africa's Digital Transformation, and how Africans can better model Information Management Systems for Development. Her Bachelor of Social Science double-majoring Economics & Demography, specialised in the socio-economic impacts of Women's Empowerment. Nthanda teaches Digital Media, Marketing, and Analytics.
